Desirée Garcia, a kindergarten teacher at German Gerena Community School in Springfield, has been named the 2027 Massachusetts Teacher of the Year. Recognised for her work in Spanish-English dual-language education, she helps children develop academic skills in two languages while embracing their cultural identities. Selected from 347 nominations, Garcia will represent Massachusetts in the National Teacher of the Year competition. The recognition also brings a $10,000 grant to her school from sponsor Wellpoint.
